Natuzzi partners with Nobel Prize winner Betty Williams to help refugees

Pasquale Natuzzi signs the agreement to build a shelter for refugees in southern Italy

Pasquale Natuzzi signs the agreement to build “Abitazione della Pace”, the first reception center for refugees in Basilicata, southern Italy. The project, signed by famous architect Mario Cucinella, was firstly discussed last September in Matera when American actress Sharon Stone, Nobel prize winner Betty Williams and Pasquale Natuzzi agreed to give help to those refugees that are coming to Europe to escape civil wars and poverty.

The new shelter uses energy saving technologies and is a butterfly wing-shaped, eco-friendly house that aims at becoming a model for future projects involving the help of immigrants and refugees.

This innovative project has been assigned to the World Center of Comparison for Children and will be carried on by Fondazione Città della Pace with the generous help of Pasquale Natuzzi and another local entrepreneur. “I am moved” said Betty Williams ”by the generosity of Pasquale Natuzzi and people from Basilicata who welcome people coming to Europe in search of peace and human rights that are denied in their countries”
